Progressive retina atrophy (Type B-PRA)Optigen **

Disease
The progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) is an inherited eye disorder leading to a degeneration of the photoreceptor cells of the retina. Initially, a loss of function of the rod cells is observed proceeding in night blindness and decreased adaptation of vision.
The type B-PRA is a genetically inherited form of PRA in Miniature Schnauzers, which can be analysed through a genetic test. Additionally, type A-PRA exists as a second genetic form of PRA in this breed. More causative genetic variants, which are not known yet, are expected to exist in Miniature Schnauzers.
