Brachyuria

Disease

The appearance of dogs differs in coat colour, hair length as well as in the tail length. Particularly the tail length bestows the characteristic look of most dog breeds. To dock the tail is forbidden in most countries. A genetic analysis allows the confirmation of a natural origin of a short tail.
By mating two heterozygous dogs the quantity of the litter is reduced because of the homozygous genotype being lethal. This is another reason for performing the genetic test.

Breed

Australian Shepherd, Austrian Pinscher, Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog, Bourbonnais Pointer, Brazilian Terrier, Brittany Spaniel, Croatian Sheepdog, Danish/Swedish Farmdog, Jack Russell Terrier, Karelian Bear Dog, Mudi, Polish Lowland Sheepdog, Pyrenean Shepherd, Savoy Sheepdog, Schipperke, Spanish Waterdog, Swedish Vallhund; Welsh Corgi;

In six breed additional studied there is no correlation between the analysed mutation and a short tail: Boston Terrier, English Bulldog, King Charles Spaniel, Miniature Schnauzer, Parson Russell Terrier, Rottweiler

Trait of inheritance

autosomal-dominant

Test duration

1-2 weeks after arrival of the sample in the lab

Material

The DNA test is performed out of EDTA blood or buccal swabs. Required swabs can be ordered free of charge. (Buccal swab order-form). If a swab is sent in, possibly the genetic material is not sufficient to run the test. In this case it would be best to send in an EDTA blood sample.

Testing procedure

Please send in your sample together with the lab order genetic. Results will be transmitted optionally via post, fax or email. After completion of the test you will receive a separate invoice. Payment can be made via credit card or bank transfer.
Breeding club discounts apply if a copy of the membership card is sent together with the respective samples. Due to administrative reasons the invoiced price can not be altered subsequently.
