Retinal Dysplasia (RD) / OculoSkeletal Dysplasia (OSD)*
Disease
Retinal Folds, also called Retinal Dysplasia (RD), is observed in many dog breeds without any pathological consequence. However in the Labrador Retriever breed as well as in Samoyeds, Retinal Folds can be associated with a more severe syndrom, the OculoSkeletal Dysplasia (OSD). Clinical signs of OSD are skeletal malformations comprising shortened limbs (dwarfism) as well as blindness at early age. Blindness results from a partial or complete detachment of the retina and cataract due to a generalized malformation of the retina. The mode of inheritance is still not fully understood but an autosomal-dominant trait with incomplete penetrance is assumed.
Breed
Labrador Retriever, Samoyed
Trait of inheritance
autosomal-dominant with incomplete penetrance
Test duration
4-6 weeks after arrival of the sample in the lab; Unfortunately, we can not ensure sample turn-around times due to sample processing by a partner laboratory. Indicated are the average turn around times.
Material
The DNA test is performed out of EDTA blood or buccal swabs. Required swabs can be ordered free of charge. (Buccal swab order-form). If a swab is sent in, possibly the genetic material is not sufficient to run the test. In this case it would be best to send in an EDTA blood sample.
Testing procedure
Please send in your sample together with the lab order genetic. Results will be transmitted optionally via post, fax or email. After completion of the test you will receive a separate invoice. Payment can be made via credit card or bank transfer.
Breeding club discounts apply if a copy of the membership card is sent together with the respective samples. Due to administrative reasons the invoiced price can not be altered subsequently.
