Genetic test hair length - now available for cats
Since the disposition for long hair is encoded by a recessive gene, short haired cats can act as carriers (carry and pass on the disposition). In these cases (e.g. British Shorthair, Oriental Shorthair) a genetic test prior to mating decisions can prevent shorthaired offspring (prevention of mating carrier x carrier). The test is suitable for all breeds of cats. In the case you would like the test to be performed in an animal which has been tested before in our laboratory you can make use of or gene bank. In most cases a new sample is not needed to be taken. Please contact us and pass on the reference number.
Requirements
The test is performed out of EDTA whole blood (0.5 ml) or cotton swabs. The cotton swabs are available upon request at labogen.
