The hereditary multifocal renal cystadenocarcinoma and nodular dermatofibrosis (RCND) is causing bilateral, multifocal tumors in the kidney, uterine leiomyomas in female dogs and nodules in the skin consisting of dense collagen fibers. The causative mutation was found and originally described in German Shepherd dogs. This form of cancer is inherited in a dominant pattern and seems to have a homozygous lethal effect on most dogs so that this fetuses often die before birth.
